IP Addresses:

The emergence of high speed internet service in the late 90's brought about the use of static and dynamic IP addresses. These addresses allow users to connect to the internet through their internet provider. The addresses work just like the address on your home or business. It is the internet address your computer uses while it is connected to the internet.

Static vs. Dynamic:

Both static and dynamic addresses work in similar ways. They both allow you access to the internet. But static addresses never change. Every time you access the internet you have the same address or IP. Dynamic addresses can change each time you connect to the internet. Because of this, dynamic addresses cause a problem when tying to link to the same computer multiple times through the internet. The address or IP for the computer you are trying to access can randomly change making it impossible for the remote computer to find the other computer through the internet.

Because of this you either have to have a static IP address for the DVR/camera server you are linking to or you need to use a service such as EZWatch IP which allows you to use dynamic IPs.

Static IP Costs:

All internet service providers charge a premium for static IP addresses. The reason they charge for static IPs is because they have a certain amount of addresses they have purchased to provide service to all of their customers. When they assign a static address to you it cant be used by anyone else. By using dynamic addresses for their customers they are able to take an address you were using while online and allow another customer to use it when you sign off. Most ISPs bundle the static IP addresses and require you to purchase a minimum of 10 even though you only need one. The average cost for static IP addresses is usually $60-$80 per month.

Dynamic IPs & EZWatch IP:

The high cost of static IP addresses is why we have created our EZWatch IP service. This service eliminates the need for static IP addresses. It only requires a normal internet connection at both computers and the service greatly simplifies the set up process. EZWatch IP continuously monitors the IP address of the DVR and when you want to remotely view your cameras the service automatically redirects you to the IP address the DVR/camera server is currently using. How It Works:

The EZWatch IP service allows you to custom create a domain name on our server. You simply type that domain name into the address bar on your web browser and the EZWatch IP service automatically redirects you to your camera server anytime you want to log into your system remotely.

Choosing your Domain Name:

A domain name is the name you type into your browsers address bar when you are surfing the web such as www.yahoo.com or www.msn.com and so on. That name is actually associated to an IP address where that website is being hosted. When you sign up for our service you will create a name such as yourbusiness.ezwatchip.com or yourname.ezwatchip.com on our server. This is the domain name you will use to link to the remote DVR/Camera Server.

Set Up:

Once you choose your domain name you will download a small client program onto the DVR or camera server. (Note: This is why you must be using the DVR/Camera Server to connect to the internet during the sign up process.) Once the client program is download and installed on the DVR/Camera Server, you are ready to connect to the DVR/Camera Server with a remote PC or laptop.

When you want to remotely view your cameras you simply use the domain name you created. By typing your custom domain name into your web browsers address bar you will be directed to you DVR/Camera Server so you can log in and start your remote viewing session.

Do I have to have an EZWatch Pro Video Surveillance System to use the EZWatch IP service?

No, you do not have to have a EZwatch Pro Video Surveillance system to use the EZWatch IP service.

The EZWatch IP service works by simply supplying you with a custom domain name (i.e. yourname.ezwatchip.com where yourname is any name you wish to provide) that when you access, will send the visitor (whether its you, or someone wanting to visit your domain address) to the computer that the EZWatch IP Update Client is installed on.

That means with the EZWatch IP service, your uses are endless. Remotely connect to your website, DVR, FTP, game, mail server or any other type of server from anywhere in the world.. by typing in your very easy to remember custom domain name! Never forget your IP address again!
